Loved your story! Brought back memories of getting in trouble with my first grade teacher, who relegated me to a spot under her desk for “independent reading “ after helping “Bill,” my “Bobby,” too many times with his missed words. Bill, by the way, for whom my unrequited love continued into junior high, eventually ended up in jail for insurance fraud, faking his way through life while nobody noticed. Even me! Stick with the weirdos.

Oh I loved this! It seems that attraction to bad boys starts young. You’ve got a great story to tell in more detail there- thanks so much for sharing it with me. So great to read comments like this- it’s the main reason I love Substack. Have a beautiful day and thanks again for making me smile 🤗✨✨

Thanks. Always glad to make someone smile!have a funeral to attend today for someone I don’t know, but other than that, I think this will be a good day.

I think I must have covered for Bill quite a few times during grade school, but the best time was when I received his report card by accident along with mine, and being so horrified by his grades, I ripped it up and threw it out. No one ever figured out what happened to it. I might have been a suspect?

And, by the way, I had a weirdo friend, Karen, who drew these wonderful horses constantly and did actually share them with some of us. However, my favorite thing she did was make these hilarious, little comic books called “Uncle Willie.” I wish I still had them. I knew her up until college, when she was pursuing medical illustration as a career. Lost track of her after she started dating my ex-boyfriend. Yeah. I think she ended up on a farm somewhere.

I am still laughing about the see no evil approach to bad grades! Some good memoir fodder for sure. I lost a friend over food theft back in the day, boyfriend theft though sometimes a blessing in disguise is pretty much unforgivable… then again, I never forgave her after discovering her clandestine thievery of my food (college days, good food was a scarcity as was good boyfriends) 🤣🤣
