Moving your phlox reminded me a dazzling gardener friend who was constantly moving plants and shrubs in her garden as if rearranging things on her desk. It worked for her. We've done that only in one major way: moved a pyramidal evergreen three times in the hopes it would flourish and after the third move it took off (and attracted more deer, but that's a different story).

That’s so funny- I love to rearrange furniture and would probably do so with my plantings if not for the knowledge it is not usually a good thing for them. Poor little evergreen! It can’t catch a break!! I have a deer problem too- tried planting marigolds, mint and rosemary in the area, and there is a commercial repellent I am hesitant to use though. Appreciated your amusing comment 😊😊

My friend never lost a plant--she was even a genius at keeping her orchids healthy. The funny thing about your back yard is that we have many evergreen"volunteers" that have done beautifully without care and which the deer have left alone, whereas they've destroyed a whole beautiful row of twelve evergreens.

Wow. I have missed out on my joy for rearranging from a mistaken assumption! Hmmm, maybe the others are of a slightly different species? Or maybe they are just in the path of the deer trail smorgasbord… arranged too temptingly all in a line like a buffet!! 🤔🤣🤣
