Kitty lies a waiting ‘Neath the wooden deck at night Nightmares come a creeping Dipped in shadows lost to light. My sleepy little girl Night-night my baby-bye Daytime’s 'round the corner Mister moon is full and high. Outside something’s stirring Creeping softly with the fog Kitty started hunting - Baby’s sleeping like a log. Alone I sit here thinking Bout things that might a been Kitty now is drinking From the pond where nightmares swim. I’m not ready to go riding Down that steep, well-traveled road Atop my own dark stallion Hell-bent with heavy load. Pass me by this time I pray I’ll do my time by light of day Where no doubts lurk like kitty-cats To eat my dreams like barn yard rats.
