Thanks so much, Chris, for taking time to read and I’m really glad you liked it- it gave me some trouble putting it together and I couldn’t tell if it was due to the theme or just my blahs this time of year! 🤣😊🫶🏼

Great read, Tracy. Fwiw, as of today, I informed my IC it's no longer needed and ended the conversation with "Fuck Off!" The feeling of freedom is exhilarating.

Your coup de etat (sp) is an inspiration to me! Mine had convinced me it was a necessary evil to prevent my incarceration or institutionalization. I shall be keeping an eye on you to see if you are going off the rails…Perhaps we could take out an add for a new improved model if the damn thing proves to be somehow essential!

Expand full comment

Tracy, I'd love to go off the rails, especially now. How about you? I'm thinking a counter coup d'etat might be just the ticket.

Ooooh! Let me dig out my Army camo's and maybe read up on my war books. Hmmm, back in the 60s we had Che, Abby Hoffman, Jerry Rubin (Do It!), I might have some of those books floating around. I think I have an old copy of The Art War and most definitely The Prince. Google says coups rarely produce good outcomes -this is likely government-controlled info to discourage citizens rising up and overthrowing shit heads even worse than IC. (thinking, worrying) Of course, there are quiet revolutionaries like Ghandi, but I would have even less ability to follow through with a patient and goodly sort of uprising. Well, I did summon the courage to out the IC in my story... but... (quivering voice), I did not think I would need to take it a step further and actually oust it! Perhaps I shall observe you for a while and see what happens. Hmph. Now you see exactly why I have allowed IC to run roughshod over me for so long (sigh and tear running down cheek). :D

Let's see: tThe Art of War-check ; ThenPrince-check, Ghandi-nits and pieces. But I also have Mao, among other authors you won't find in certain public libraries. On the late 60s, a German protest leader, Rudi Dutschke, advocatef "the long Match through the institutions, which at the time was inspiring. Unfortunately, some of those who completed their long march still sold out and became part of the problem. Meanwhile, let's be content to stir the pot and see what cooks.

Storytelling is a ritual procedure to be uncovered, I love your storytelling and your golden orb sense of humor, Tracy, you always touch my heart! Love, peace and storytelling, Geraldine

Thanks so much for your comment! I tried to look up storetelling but my search continually was corrected to storytelling! 😟🧐 I must admit I have have mixed feelings about the IC…perhaps it is only Stockholm Syndrome speaking, but I am not sure banishing it entirely is optimal (certainly I do advocate keeping it in check always!). For me, it is a primal force, a thing that is so integrally tied up with my ‘self’ that I would be somehow lesser without it. It protects me…again, I am reminded of Stockholm Syndrome! 🤣 It is difficult to explain…let me try a different angle. Some forms of eastern religion seem to advocate the suppression (or eradication) of the ego, I have never agreed with this - there are parts of us that serve purposes and that we don’t fully understand. To deny or bury them (I think such things can never really be destroyed) is to do a disservice to the totality of our being and to turn our back on attaining a deeper understanding of who and what we are in ALL our glory. To have the arrogance even to believe we could destroy such a thing is only a slippery slope that leads to self-deception and living in denial. YET!! Some part of me feels it might be like tossing off a yoke -I am conflicted and it is an age-old battle for me! Well, as always, your thoughts have made me go deeper and I am always so grateful when you share them with me! Looking forward to continuing our dialogue whenever the mood hits!! 🥰🥰 My fondest wishes for you and yours this holiday season 🫶🏼🙏🏼💕✨✨

It would have made sense to say the IC according to Freud is the super ego or the higher brain and our moral conscience and it does police my mind. I’ve been overthinking a bit lately, and really I don’t know have the time what I’m talking about.

Expand full comment

I totally agree that super ego, if framing through the Freud lens, is closer to capturing the nature of the iC. But my IC is not quite so dedicated to maintaining the status quo of societal expectations- it is a peculiar hybrid - perhaps the ego example I provided is misleading. Hmmmm. IC is….the mediator between the good angel and demon (not always ‘bad’ contrary to popular belief). It tries to synthesize the contradictions inherent in life. You see how I defend the rascal!! **sigh•• 🤣🤣🤣

I love all the flavors on a cold Christmas morning, Tracy. And the tire swing brings in old memories... Cheers

Expand full comment

There are so many- never thought of the day being composed of flavors, but that fits so well especially with all my cooking/food references. My tire swing was hung on the branch of a big old Sycamore tree and swung out over a “holler”. It was an exhilarating sensation and only one broken collar bone (not mine) over the years! Wasn’t it amazing the fun we could have when our play spaces were not sanitized, supervised and bubble-wrapped!?! Best wishes for Christmas and New Years- thanks so much for reading and commenting 😊🫶🏼🎄✨

Agreed Tracy... Strong sense of sentiment for a natural and free and organic youth that may or may not be a construction of my imagination ... But even if so, it is a really happy one. I know the tire swing was real. We had a cabin on a hillside and the swing was attached to an old oak and it swung out over the chasm... 🎄

I believe you and I have very different ideas about the IC, but I really enjoyed this piece and the ideas about writing you brought to the fore. You changed something in me today, and isn’t that what great writing is all about? Thank you.

Expand full comment

Thanks so much for this comment! I went back and forth a million times writing this piece… was IC a hero or a villain!? Finally, in keeping with my cooking theme I just made him my sous chef 🤣🤣 I would love to hear your ideas about IC… we must be careful about talking of him behind his back though- he hears everything and holds grudges! 🤣🥰🥰
