“Describe it to me.”
“I cannot. You must see the light for yourself.”
She writhed in currents even darker than her fathomless pupils.
“What use are words to a fool who sees but cannot say? Begone!”
With no small effort she made her way upwards through the viscous liquid. She would see the thing and take its essence in words perfectly formed, eruditely articulated.
The sun had set and the night was moonless. Her vestigial eyes scanned the ocean’s surface. The fool had seen nothing and she had no words to capture emptiness; “light” was but a rumor.
