I am fascinated by the old stories of origin, the why of things from all cultures but the endless battle between the two kings for the Lady’s favor (sacred Earth) is especially captivating. The heat of Summer’s Solstice inspired these fanciful haikus.
The Wheel of the Year Witness to Oak and Holly Smiles at their battle. Praise to the Oak King Lord of the Forrest now reigns, Warm in Her embrace. Strong and green, Oak King Wins the Goddess’ favor, Only for a while. Holly King watches As the Oak King grows too old, He catches Her eye. Sacred Earth’s embrace Allows for each in turn as Light and dark collide.
The Oak King and Holly King fascinate me, it feels more spiritual to me than church. Thank you for your insightful comment. The 8 Sabbats are Celtic pagan and I find myself more and more drawn to this earth-centered worship as I grow older. I knew you would get it and love it that it resonates with you! 🥰🙏🏼🫶🏼
Hot inspired haikus Tracy, from another time and place, so lovely and divine. I don’t hear fanciful, I hear a sensitivity and a celebration of the real and the natural, and the sense of holiness within everyday and the seasons of Time. I live for this “stuff” thank you and I hope you write more divine haiku! Geraldine
