Winter Haikus Barren trees trembling before gray skies and soft clouds icicles shimmer Ice skaters slice small cuts noisily on black ice soft snow covers wounds Cinnamon candles herald dark days and long nights till the Oak King comes Blackberry winter intrudes upon June’s sweetness, fragile blossoms fade Deathwatch Serial Haikus in one story Back to bed he creeps on cotton feet finding creaks interrupting sleep Chirping cricket sings in the middle of the night hairs on arms stand up The darkness whispers slick upon the air like snakes in poison gardens Secrets all around floating like deadly dust motes settling on old skin Spirit trapped within chained, choked, empty and brittle forever broken
